The sheer volume of ideation and AI pilot launches, without any ROI focused execution happening within many companies today is staggering. It's just unfocused playing without the business side of things. No plans, no success metrics, no targeted experiments or stage gates, or reviews against the metrics. Just building to play and build. The ROI for unplanned building and playing in AI is always going to be negative. Planned thoughtful AI innovation processes can still involve playing and building, but simply with some professional structure around it to help determine what works and what doesn't.
