The AI Speed Trap - The rush to a grinding halt
Everyone's screaming "AI urgency" - and they're not wrong.
But I'm watching many sprint in the wrong direction.
This week, a CEO told me they'd deployed 9 new AI tools in 60 days. "We're moving fast," he said proudly.
When I asked how many operational business problems they had solved as a result, he paused. "We're still figuring that out."
That's not speed. That's expensive chaos.
Here's what that approach created:
→ Untrained employees not ready for the real AI speed that's coming
→ No cultural buy-in on the operational discipline needed
→ AI tools with zero data systems alignment
→ Zero to no ROI measurement or management
→ AND a massive pile of AI debt to unwind later
Speed matters. But direction matters more.
Moving fast in the wrong direction doesn't make you agile. It will make you exhausted, broke, and further behind.
The companies that are going to win at AI? They're moving fast on building a foundation: →Clear problems identified first →Strategic priorities defined →Operational, Cultural & Governance frameworks in place →Strategic employee training & enablement planning/execution →Success metrics established & stood up →Management cadence for consistent AI program review
THEN they sprint. Hard.
AI urgency is real. But urgent doesn't mean reckless.
Build a solid AI-ready foundation. Then move fast.
Avoid this major AI Transformation mistake!
